Our modern lives have a definite fascination with the rich and famous. That’s not a new phenomenon. Those who entertain the masses have always had a certain allure. What is new though is how accessible stars are to us. With Twitter and Instagram you can easily interact with your favourite star and if you are really lucky they might even interact back. It’s quite extraordinary.
I regularly interact with the famous people that I follow on social media.
Yes I am that crazy stalker person!
The way I look at it is, even if I had a following in the thousands I would welcome some interaction because that’s what I enjoy. I don’t mind if I don’t get a response. If I do it’s a bonus. This day I was watching a celeb show her followers what she had packed in her hospital bag to give birth to her first baby.
I watched and scoffed at the idealism. The choice of items she included were straight out of the book where the stork brings the baby. The book where there’s no discomfort. The book where there’s no blood. The book where your nipples don’t crack or the baby doesn’t excrete liquid shit every few hours.
The book where everything is picture perfect.
I began to type a message letting her know exactly how ridiculous the contents of her baby bag were. Then I stopped.
I could think of nothing worse than being a celebrity mother. As mothers we get judged for everything. As a celebrity mother you have so many eyes on you waiting for you to slip up. Can you even imagine that pressure? Yes she shares her life with people but not for the purpose of criticism. Who did I think I was to tell her that her bag wasn’t right? She’d obviously put thought into it and my opinion was not required.
Celebrities are ridiculed for their choice of name. For whether they gain too much weight while pregnant or for the fact they don’t gain weight at all. Whether they chose to employ help or not, the list is endless. Every move is greeted with condemnation.
At least the rest of us only have to put up with it from the mother-in-law.
It’s human nature to discuss other people but I really wish folk would think twice before posting it online. Just talk about the celebs in the kitchen with your mates. Rip them apart in the privacy of your own home if you feel the need but don’t hurt someone you don’t even know. They may have wealth but we are all human at the end of the day. Motherhood is hard enough without thousands of people thinking they know better.
